Hawke’s Bay Autumn Triples
15 October 2020
Eighteen teams took part in the rescheduled Hawke’s Bay Autumn Triples played at the start of October.
The tournament in association with The Station Bar & Bistro, Napier, was held during a very typical Hawke’s Bay weekend of very fine weather. Some of the contestants felt as though they were in an oven and being cooked slowly. Thank goodness for the marquees which came from the local law firm Langley Twigg.
This was a great event which was enjoyed by all the teams which came from mainly lower North Island clubs.
The WPA Women's Singles took place last Saturday (17 Oct) at Horowhenua, with all the finals being very close games. The Trophy final featured Claire Wilson and Barbara Nicholls. Barbara won 13-12 over Claire.
The Plate was won by Judy Tyree 13-11 over Marilyn Trembath.
The Bowl was won by Mary Willmer 13-11 over Shirley Madgwick.
The full results of the Women's Doubles and Triples have been updated.
Eighteen teams took part in the Naenae Open Doubles. The majority of the teams were from the Hutt Valley with Alan and Janet Frost travelling from Manawatu to take part.
The time limit was 50 minutes with no extra ends, so draws were possible. There were no draws in the knockout stage so we didn't get to see the one boule tiebreaker in operation.
In the first round Myles and Michael had a comfortable win over Moises and Dave. In the final, things were a lot tighter with Myles and Michael taking the match 7-5.
