Participants in the Regional Doubles Championship

Twenty-six teams took part in the Regional Doubles Championship at Kapiti. The first day featured the usual 5-round Snake (random draw).

Three teams went through the day undefeated (Myles Cowper/Michael Rocks, Moises Burgos/Lee Taffard and Dave Gatchell/Ann Hogg). However, as usually happens the momentum is hard to maintain on the second day.

The Trophy final featured Christine Strichen and Claire Wilson against Myles Cowper and Michael Rocks. In the first game of the day, Claire and Christine had prevailed. In the final game of the day, they won again to claim their first Regional Doubles Championship.

Hawke’s Bay Autumn Triples

15 October 2020

Eighteen teams took part in the rescheduled Hawke’s Bay Autumn Triples played at the start of October.

The tournament in association with The Station Bar & Bistro, Napier, was held during a very typical Hawke’s Bay weekend of very fine weather. Some of the contestants felt as though they were in an oven and being cooked slowly. Thank goodness for the marquees which came from the local law firm Langley Twigg.

This was a great event which was enjoyed by all the teams which came from mainly lower North Island clubs.

Naenae Open Doubles

22 October 2020

Eighteen teams took part in the Naenae Open Doubles. The majority of the teams were from the Hutt Valley with Alan and Janet Frost travelling from Manawatu to take part.

The time limit was 50 minutes with no extra ends, so draws were possible. There were no draws in the knockout stage so we didn't get to see the one boule tiebreaker in operation.

In the first round Myles and Michael had a comfortable win over Moises and Dave. In the final, things were a lot tighter with Myles and Michael taking the match 7-5.
