There are a large number of places where one can play pétanque in the Wellington region. In fact, any bare, reasonably flat piece of ground away from the traffic can be used.
Note: Grass is not considered a good playing surface as pétanque boules tend to make holes in a well-manicured lawn!

Sadly, the terrain at Charles Plimmer Park (Lawson Place, Mt Victoria), which was for a time the home of the Wellington Pétanque club, has been grassed over and no longer exists.
These terrains are attached to cafes, restaurants and vineyards. Please check with the owner before using.
