Pétanque Wellington - Tournament Conditions

General

  1. All players must be registered members of a club affiliated to the Wellington Pétanque Association (unless the tournament has been designated as Open)
  2. The tournament will be played to the F.I.P.J.P. Rules as adopted by Pétanque New Zealand.
  3. Result Sheets: Immediately at the conclusion of a game a player from each team is required to sign that the score is correct on the result sheet.
  4. Points Differential: Both positive and negative points will be used to calculate the points differential.
  5. Tie breaking procedures in all pool play. If two or more teams/players are tied on the same number of wins then:
  6. Absence of a team or player(s). Articles 32, 33 and 34 of the F.I.P.J.P. Rules as adopted by Petanque New Zealand will apply. Players will be expected to know these rules but a copy will be available at the tournament score table.
  7. The replacement of a player in a registered team is only permitted before the tournament commences.
  8. The WPA will appoint a chief Arbiter and other Arbiters at its discretion.

Risk Management Policy

  1. Players should be aware that the game of pétanque involves a number of hazards that have the potential to cause harm to players, officials and/or spectators. These include:
  2. While the tournament organisers will take all reasonable steps to ensure that these risks are minimised, players entering a tournament also need to accept that they have responsibility to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
  3. The Official Rules for the Sport of Petanque states in article 39, Behaviour. "Correct dress is required of the players, specifically it is forbidden to play without a top and for safety reasons, the players must wear fully enclosed shoes protecting the toes and heels". Players not adhering to these rules will be disqualified from playing.
  4. For special medical reasons a player may apply to the tournament organiser for a dispensation to wear different footwear to the above.

Smoking/Vaping

  1. Smoking and/or vaping is not permitted on the terrain during play at any time.

Mobile Phones

  1. The use of mobile phones whilst playing is not permitted.

Disputes

  1. The Arbiter(s) appointed for the tournament will adjudicate in all matters to do with the rules of pétanque.
  2. In all other matters a Disputes Committee comprised of the WPA contact plus the arbiter(s) for the tournament will adjudicate.
