Interclub Doubles

Reviewed first day. Results distributed. Venue for June is Park Avenue. Wait for Round 2 to shift Pools to other venues.

Tournament Notices Received

• Pétanque Club Putaruru Invitation Doubles, 7th June.
• 1998 Oceania Championship (triples). NZPA Qualifying Tournament, Queens Birthday Weekend (30 - 31 May), Auckland.

NZPA Report

Raffle: $5 per ticket, 20 per book. 1st prize 8 day trip for 2, Club Med, New Caledonia.
Money raised to go towards sending NZ Representative Teams to overseas tournaments.
Wellington allocated 20 books.

Report on NZPA meeting 9.5.98: Meeting was very productive. NZPA President unable to attend because he was at a Hillary Commission Seminar on Strategic Planning and Media Liaison for emerging sports.

Next meeting of NZPA 27.6.98: Meeting agreed to pay air fare of NZPA President (approx $260 - $300)

Seeding in National Tournaments

The NZPA meeting on 27.6.98 to discuss seeding in national tournaments. WPA asked to support this policy.

Move: 'That the Wellington Pétanque Association supports the policy of seeding teams and/or players in all National Tournaments.'

Encouragement Tournaments

Meeting agreed to a couple of these types of tournaments later in the year. Open to players who are starting in pétanque and those who are entering a tournament for the first time. Suggested that they could be triples tournaments with an experienced player allocated to each team.

Club News

• Park Avenue: Don asked other clubs what they doing with sponsorship.
• Wellington: Gerard commented on the way the rules are not being followed, particularly in Auckland. Meeting agreed that in Wellington we stick with the rules. Brian commented that the NZPA needs to set a policy on rules.
• Khandallah: Brenda told the meeting that they are still having a lot of problems with bowling club. They may have to break away from the bowling club.
