Timed Games in WPA Tournaments

4 December 2014

At the 20 November WPA meeting a petition was received from several of the competitors who took part in the Regional Doubles Championship requesting a change to the Playing Conditions for timed games adopted at the July 2014 Meeting.

Club responses to the proposed change close on Friday, 12 December.

WPA members are invited to join the debate on the Discussion forum (under Tournaments).

The Wellington Representative team to play against Hawke's Bay on Saturday, 13 December for the Haines Cup is:

Steve Frampton (Park Avenue), Lew Gill (Horowhenua), Annick Le Guen (Kapiti), Shirley MacDonald (Horowhenua), Kevin McFadgen (Kapiti), Graeme Morris (Masterton), Shirley Selwyn (Wanganui East), Christine Stricken (Wanganui East), Claire Wilson (Masterton).

After eleven matches, the scores are tied 5-5 with one draw. However, it is four years since Wellington last beat Hawke's Bay. Previous results

PNZ National Senior Doubles Championship

11 December 2014

Twenty-two teams took part in the National Senior Doubles Championship at Herne Bay last weekend. In the Trophy final, Ian Baker and Paul Bicklemann defeated Kevin Davis and Max Davis.

The Trophy Consolation final was by Charles Brock and John Greig from Ann Shields and Shirley Selwyn.

Fourteen teams took part in the 12th Wellington Open Triples held at the Manawatu Pétanque club.

The Trophy final featured the two unbeaten teams: Sharon Cannon, Murray Porter and Brian Smith against Myles Cowper, Annick Le Guen and Michael Rocks. Progress score: 1-0, 1-3, 1-5, 1-9, 1-12, 2-12, 2-13.

Two Wellington region players have been named in the Senior team to take part in the Trans Tasman match at Avoca (Victoria, Australia) next March.

Women

Claire Bradburn (Silverstream), Marilyn Bunce (Alexandra), Kay George (St Kilda), Margaret Maher (Northcote), Shirley McDonald (Horowhenua), Ann Shields (Epsom). The Reserve is Chris Taylor (Christchurch) and the Coach is Jean Parley (Stanley Bay).

Men

Clive Bartleet (Vikings), Charles Brock, Colin Bunce (Alexandra), John Hudson (Tauranga BOP), Trevor Neilson (Rotorua), Ray Pierce (Vikings). The Reserve is Graeme Morris (Masterton) and the Coach is Murray Porter (Bay View).

The Open players were announced last month.
