National Senior Doubles Championship

5 December 2008

Twenty-four teams, including five from the WPA region, are competing in the National Senior Doubles Championship in Tauranga over the weekend. Three former champions are taking part: Doug Hay, Helen Hay and Rex Hayes.

Brian Smith is attempting to become the first player to win national Championships in four events, having previously won the Singles, Doubles and Triples.

WPA Open Triples

6 December 2008

Michael Rocks, Enoka Smiler and Dirk Winnie were undefeated in winning the 2008 WPA Open Triples. In the final they beat Leon Crosse, Sebastien Merval and Nico Toyne 13-11.

Wellington-Hawke's Bay Challenge

7 December 2008

Wellington were comprehensively beaten by Hawke's Bay in the annual inter-region match played in Palmerston North. Of the 22 games actually played, Wellington won just 7. Wellington's most successful players were Peter van Heusden and Nikki Winnie with 2 wins from 3 games.

National Senior Doubles

Doug and Helene Hay (Masterton) retained their Senior Doubles title at Tauranga over the weekend. In the final they beat Bob Bridge (West End) and Bill Peachey (Hibiscus Coast).

PNZ National Rankings

30 December 2008

Georgio Vakauta (Victoria Park) has maintained his position at the top of the end of year PNZ Player ranking list. Things are pretty steady at the top with eight of last year's Top 10 players still ranked in the Top 10.

Dirk Winnie remains the region's top ranked player (4). Claire Wilson (20) is the region's top ranked female player.
