PNZ National Singles

14 October 2007

Forty-eight players from throughout the North Island took part in the National Singles at Herne Bay. In the Championship final Georgio Vakauta (Victoria Park) beat Christian Fouquet 13-10. This was Georgio's fifth Singles title, and unfortunately for Christian, his third runner-up.

Myles Cowper (Kapiti) was the best placed of the Wellington players, sharing third equal spot with Seti Mailei (Victoria Park). Ian Baine, Graeme Morris and Michael Rocks also took part.

Other prize-winners were:
Plate: Grant Hackett (Mt Albert) 1, Harry Gosselman (Herne Bay) 2;
Bowl: Danila Carducci (Victoria Park) 1, Clive Bartleet (Victoria Park) 2;
Bowl Consolation: Charlie Leighton (Cockle Bay) 1, Ruby Vakauta (Victoria Park) 2;
Tournament Consolation: Clem Boer (Herne Bay) 1, Ron Sandilands (Cockle Bay) 2.

Trans-Tasman Qualifying Tournament

The list of eligible players who may enter the Trans-Tasman qualification tournament has been published on the PNZ website (not archived) and makes fascinating reading. Several members of recent teams have not met the minimum qualifying standard and therefore cannot enter. Closing date for entry is 31 October. If numbers warrant it, the qualification tournament will be held December 1 & 2. The venue will be announced later.

Regional Senior Doubles

Kath and Kaye Alison (Kapiti) are the new Senior Doubles champions. In the final they beat club mates Jan McHardy and Pat Scholes 13-8.

28 October 2007

Tony Chin and Ants Yee won their first Regional Doubles title when they beat Ernie Chu and Terry Lawson in the Final. The Plate competition was won by Neil Dykes and Sebastien Merval, who beat Lorraine Gibbons and Helene Hay.

The Bowl was won by Claire Bradburn and Peter Dennett from Karepa Mataira and Peter van Heusden.
