General Business

Tournament Allocations

Claire gave out new calendar dates for the next 12 months. There were a couple of changes from the list on the agenda. The Tri Star will be held in Dunedin on 26/27 November and the Hawke’s Bay/Wellington Challenge will be held on Sunday, 11 December and the WPA Open Triples will be held on Saturday 10, December.

It was agreed that the WPA Open Triples be moved around to other clubs rather than be tied to the Hawke’s Bay/Wellington Challenge. This will be looked at for next season.

Future of the Regional Awards

After a general discussion about the lack of nominations and whether the Awards were needed it was decided that the Awards be stopped and that Club themselves should have their own awards for members.

Moved by Michael, seconded by Carleen. Carried.

Process for appointing Regional Coach and Selectors

Graeme Morris was reappointed as Coach/Selector for the remainder of 2016.

Moved Michael, seconded Jo. Carried.

At the first meeting of 2017 expressions of interest will be called for coaches for the next year’s representative programme.

Jacques Cochonnet match - fielding an ineligible player

Clubs are reminded that a player is licenced to represent one club and cannot represent another club in the Inter-club, Jacques Cochonnet or Champion of Champions without first transferring clubs.

New Club

Claire spoke about the Mana Club which is associated to Probus and would like to affiliate to the WPA. Claire and Brad have been working with the players who are all keen to play in our competitions. They only have about 12 members currently.

Moved by Claire, seconded by Jo. Carried.

Park Avenue terrain

Claire reported on the progress of Park Avenue Club’s pistes. The pistes will probably be ready for playing on by November, at the moment there will only be 10 pistes but in future there is likely to be another 6 pistes.

WPA Regional Squad training sessions

Elva queried the payment to Umpires and Coaches. Currently they are paid $20 per day for actual events.

Clubs who organise a Coach to provide a coaching clinic for their members are responsible for any reimbursement to that coach. It is not up to the WPA to pay.

It was moved by Claire, seconded by Carleen that the club hosting a rep team for squad training that a payment of $20 per day be made.

Jacques Cochonnet refreshments

Jo also pointed out that the hosting club of the JC Cup should provide lunch for all players. A check of the Rules showed that they actually stated:

“The host club is encouraged to provide lunch/refreshments for the challenger at the conclusion of the match…”

The meeting closed at 9:25 pm.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be at Silverstream on Thursday, 15 September starting at 7:30 pm.
