Club Resources: Fundraising
Gaming Trusts
Gaming Trusts return the proceeds from the gaming (pokie) machines back to the community. Each Trust will typically fund community groups within the region where they have an outlet.
Making an Application - Plan for Success
- Prioritise Activities
Be careful about applying for grants for time bound activities as Trusts typically have a maximum 3 month time horizon.
- Know your Trusts
Read their website. Don't waste your and their time by applying for something that they don't fund.
- Complete the form
Use the latest form
- Convince the Trust
Make a compelling case (not too verbose) about why you should receive funding support
- Allow time for processing of the application (NZCT average is probably 6-7 weeks)
- Submit receipts
- Typically require an affiliation letter from the regional or national association
Why Applications are Declined
- Incomplete
- Outside Trust criteria
- Purpose not authorised
- Double dipping - Trusts share information about applications
- Insufficient funds available - more common now
- Audit incomplete (from a previous application)
- Failed Maximum Community Benefit test
