Kapiti’s first defence was against perennial Cup holders Masterton. Kapiti started strongly winning all three first round games.
In the second round, Kapiti again won all three games to retain the Trophy. In the third round, Masterton won all three games to close the gap. The final score was Kapiti 6, Masterton 3.
Hawke’s Bay have advised that they are unable to field a team to play Wellington as scheduled on 10 December. The match will be postponed until a suitable date can be arranged early in 2018.
WPA Regional Senior Doubles Championship

Twenty-three teams are taking part in the WPA Regional Senior Doubles Championship at Horowhenua tomorrow (15 November).
Twenty-four teams took part in the Regional Senior Doubles at Horowhenua. A four round random (snake) format was first used to rank the teams. Shirley MacDonald/Graeme Morris and Pete Hamilton/Sheryl Parslow topped the standings with four wins.
The top 8 went into the Trophy Knockout, the next 8 into the Plate and the final 8 went into the Bowl.
The Trophy final featured Shirley and Graeme against Dave Gatchell and Ann Hogg, with the latter prevailling 13-6.
In the Plate final, Kathy and Tony Gatford beat Alan Cameron and Marc Khull 13-11. The Bowl final was won by Graeme and Linda Millard who pipped Carleen Fitzgerald and Patrick Scarlett 13-12.
Twenty-one teams took part in the eleventh Wanganui East Open Triples over the weekend. Saturday, was a five round snake draw (random) with the top 8 teams qualifying for the Trophy, the next 8 for the Plate and the remainder for the Bowl.
Unusually, it was a team with four wins that missed on qualifying for the Trophy as three teams finished with 5 wins, and six teams finished with 4 wins. (Qualifying results)
As typically happens, the undefeated teams from Saturday struggled on Sunday. Yvonne Futcher/Kevin McFadgen/Sheryl McFadgen qualified for the Trophy knockout, but Dez Grant/Lee Taffard/Sarah-Jane Wright and Brett Maguire/Michelle Maxwell/Tony Simpson dropped down to the Trophy Consolation.
The Trophy final was won by Maurice Belz, Myles Cowper and Michael Rocks 13-2 over Yvonne Futcher, Kevin McFadgen and Sheryl McFadgen.
