PNZ National Singles Championship
6 October 2016
Forty-six players took part in the National Singles Championship at the Panmure Pioneers Pétanque club in Auckland.
As can be seen from the Club’s Facebook page the weather wasn't too kind over the weekend.
In the Trophy final, Maurice Belz beat defending (and eight-time) champion Georgio Vakauta 13-10 to claim his second Singles Championship having previously won at Bay View in 2009.

WPA Regional Shooting Championship (Tir de Précision)

Seven competitors took part in this year’s competition. The cancellation of the Friday afternoon qualification session may have contributed to the small entry.
Michael Rocks and Myles Cowper, who finished first and second in qualifying on Saturday evening, faced off during the lunch time break in the Regional Doubles on Sunday.
In a low scoring final Michael won the title for the fifth time. (Final results)
WPA Regional Doubles Championship

With an entry of 24 teams there were 16 qualifying spots up for grabs on Saturday. After 5 rounds of qualifying games, Myles Cowper and Michael Rocks were the only undefeated team.
As is the usual case, the top teams from Saturday didn’t have it their own way on Sunday, with four of the top eight teams relegated to the Plate.
In the Championship final, Dave Gatchell and Pete Hamilton faced the 2012 champions Grant Bray and Dirk Winnie.
Grant an Dirk took an early lead only to see Dave and Pete fight back and then take the lead themselves. Grant and Dirk then picked up a 4 to tie the scores at 11-11.
A tense final end saw Pete shoot the cochonnet to claim the last 2 points.
The Plate final was won by Andrew Joe and Brian Smith. They beat Yvonne Futcher and Annick Le Guen 13-7.
The Bowl was won by Kevin and Sheryl McFadgen who beat Kathy and Tony Gatchford 13-8.

Jacques Cochonnet Trophy Challenge

Masterton’s fifth defence of the Jacques Cochonnet Challenge trophy was away at Hataitai. The two clubs have previously clashed eleven times with Masterton winning on nine of those occassions. This time around it was Hataitai who came out on top winning a close match 5 games to 4.
Hataitai’s first defence will be at home to Park Avenue.

WPA Inter-club Finals Draw

Hi everyone, due to the unfortunate withdrawal of Masterton and Hataitai from this Saturday’s finals it has been necessary to alter the draw.
Upper Hutt has been elevated to second place (East) in Division 1 and replaces Silverstream who have been elevated to first place (east) to replace Masterton.
This leaves Wanganui East and Manawatu to play the second division final. The second division final will be played at Manawatu on Saturday at a time agreed by both clubs.
All other matches will be played at Kapiti starting at 9:30am as previously advised.
The new draw is as follows:
Division One Semi-finals: 9.30am at Kapiti.
Match One: Silverstream vs Horowhenua
Match Two: Upper Hutt vs Kapiti
Afternoon matches:
Division One final: winner of match one vs winner match two
Division One 3rd and 4th playoff: loser match one vs loser match two
Division Two final: Wanganui East vs Manawatu to be played at Manawatu at a mutually agreed time on Saturday 29th October.

Twenty teams took part in the Guy Fawkes Doubles at Horowhenua. The format was 5 randon drawn games and three teams finished with 5 wins.
Ties were split by Points Differential with Myles Cowper and Michael Rocks (+51) finishing ahead of Dave Gatchell and Barbara Nicholls (+44) and Kevin Bryan and Ron Sandilands (+26).
