Thirteen teams have entered the WPA Open Triples at Manawatu on Saturday, 10 December.

WPA Open Triples

WPA Open Triples prizes.

Fourteen teams took part in WPA Open Triples at Manawatu on Saturday. In the morning there were 4 rounds of 50 minute games (plus 1 end). The top 4 teams went through into the Trophy knockout. The next 4 teams went into the Plate and the third 4 went into the Bowl.

The bottom two teams played off for the chocolates (Cadbury Favourites).

In the Trophy final, Dene Futcher, Pete Hamilton and Michael Rocks beat Sharon Cannon, Steve Frampton and Graeme Morris 13-6.

The Plate final was won by Yvonne Futcher, Sheryl McFadgen and Kevin Fadgen 13-8 over Grant Bray, Annick Le Guen and Brett Maguire.

Sheryl Parslow, Christine Strichen and Claire Wilson beat David Corley, Noeline Corley and Marc Khull 13-9 to win the Bowl.

The chocolates were won by Ian Bailey, Alan Cameron and David Smart who beat Kevin Bryan, Christine Daykin and Judith Smith.

Haines Cup match

Hawke's Bay beat Wellington 33-15 in the annual match played at the Manawatu Pétanque club to regain the Haines Cup. (Result)

Representative Team

Four WPA members have been named in the NZ Senior team to take part in the 2017 Trans-Tasman match in Adelaide (18-19 March).

Men

Neville Frost (Dunedin City), Dave Gatchell (Horowhenua), Pete Hamilton (Wanganui East), Bill Peachey (Vikings), Ray Pierce (Herne Bay), Mervyn Wilson (St Kilda). The non-travelling reserve is Les Clearwater (Christchurch).

Women

Claire Bradburn (Silverstream), Marilyn Bunce (Alexandra), Kay George (St Kilda), Sheryl Parslow (Wanganui East), Margaret Penny (Herne Bay), Ann Shields (Epsom). The non-travelling reserve is Angela Maxted (Kennedy Park).
