Pointing

Pointing is the most challenging and difficult skill in a game of pétanque, and yet it is often the one that is most looked down upon. How often do you see in a pick-up game that the novice or least proficient shooter is made to play as first pointer?

If you are prepared to take the time to practice, then you shouldn't neglect practicing your pointing. This is especially true for Shooters, who will frequently be pointing into a crowded head to either collect more points or save the end.

Important Note: If you do the shooting, watch your next throw if it is a point. Your action from your previous delivery was fast and you now have to think slow for an important point.
