February 2003
The top seeds, Andrew Mailei, Seti Mailei and Georgio Vakauta from the Victoria Park club in Auckland were undefeated in defending their national Triples title at the Mt Albert terrain.
In a tournament full of surprises, the unseeded combination of Sharon Cannon (Bay View), Elizabeth Rocks and Roy Zeier (Khandallah) surpassed their fifth equal placing last year to finish runners-up, while Ann Clayworth, Ella Harris, Claire Matthews (Northcote) finished third equal.
Last year's runners-up and second seeds, Craig McKenzie, Neil Satherley, Steve Thwaites (Canterbury) struggled on the tricky Mt Albert pistes eventually winning the Bowl.
The new combination of Oskar de Jong, Neil Dykes, Gordon Dykes (Khandallah) defeated last year's Plate winners Denise Bavidge, Geoff Greer, Murray Porter (Bay View) to win the Plate.
The tournament winners will represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Geneva, Switzerland in July.
