Inter-region Matches 2022

Chanticleer Cup

Contested by the Wellington and Auckland region Development teams.

Saturday, 27 and Sunday 28 August 2022

Games played at Herne Bay Pétanque Club

Round One singles: 8 – 4 to Wellington. Round two singles: Another good round for Wellington who won 7 – 5. After the singles Wellington had a 15 – 9 lead. Rounds three, four and five doubles: nine wins each for Wellington and Auckland which gave Wellington a 33 – 27 lead at the end of day one.

Day two: four rounds of triples with 48 points on offer. Wellington teams have traditionally not been strong in triples but had done a lot of work with their triple’s combinations.

Round one triples: Wellington won three of the four matches to extend their lead. Round two triples: Auckland won three out of the four to regain their lost points from the previous round. Round three triples: Split two matches each which meant that in the last round of the tournament Wellington just had to win one match to retain the Chanticleer Cup.

The lead in all four games changed many times before Wellington were able to win the one game required but also won the last game to finish. This resulted in the final score of Wellington 57 – Auckland 51.

The doubles combinations for Wellington were: Debby Butler/Kevin McFadgen. Ann Hogg/Richard Turfrey. Michelle Maxwell/Vaughan Husband. Christine Daykin/Tony Simpson. Yvonne Futcher/Ngaire Eriksen. Claire Bradburn/Dave Gwerder.

The triples combinations were: Michelle Maxwell/Vaughan Husband/Ann Hogg. Debby Butler/Kevin McFadgen. Claire Bradburn/Dave Gwerder/Tony Simpson. Yvonne Futcher/Ngaire Eriksen/ Christine Daykin.
