Hawkes Bay Classic Doubles

The Hawkes Bay Classic Doubles was played at Napier City Petanque Club on Saturday and Sunday the 3rd & 4th September. Thirty two doubles teams took part.

The Wellington team was: Claire Bradburn (Silverstream), Debby Butler (Kapiti), Christine Daykin (Manawatu), Ngaire Eriksen (Horowhenua), Yvonne Futcher (Wanganui East), Dave Gwerder (Upper Hutt), Ann Hogg (Horowhenua), Vaughan Husband (Manawatu), Kevin McFadgen (Kapiti), Michelle Maxwell (Kapiti), Tony Simpson (Wanganui East), Richard Turfrey (Wanganui East). Coach : Graeme Morris (Masterton) Coaching assistants: Shirley MacDonald (Otaki), Barbara Nicholls (Otaki).

Wellington won the trophy in 2019 in Palmerston North and the trophy wasn’t played for in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.

Rex Hayes Memorial Mixed Doubles - Results

The winners with club treasurer

The Rex Hayes Memorial Mixed Doubles was played on Saturday 10th September 2022.

The competition brought some superb players to Kapiti from various parts of the country and it was great to see some familiar faces.

Four games were completed in the morning, followed by lunch.

Play resumed after lunch, the first games being knock out rounds, the winners of each game continuing to the semis, then finals.

Myles Cowper, one of Rex Hayes' many friends, paid tribute to Rex in a speech that said it all.

Jacques Cochonnet Trophy Challenge

14 September 2022

Manawatu's first defence of the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy was at home. In each round Silverstream won two of the three games.

Three players from each club won all three of their games. Overall a convincing win for Silverstream.

Round 30 commences with Silverstream's first defence match at home against Naenae.

Thirty six teams took part in the Regional Mixed Doubles Championship held at the Horowhenua Pétanque club on Saturday, 17 September.

WPA Pointing Competition

28 September 2022

Nine players took part in the WPA Regional Pointing Competition held in conjunction with the WPA Regional Singles at Horowhenua Pétanque club. The top two qualifiers were Michelle Maxwell (29) and Dan Harawira (28). In the final Michelle Maxwell beat Dan Harawira 25-18.
