Kapiti defence of the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy was at home to Silverstream.
Silverstream had a good start winning two of the three first round games. In the second round Kapiti fought back and won all three games. After two rounds the score was 4-2 to Kapiti. Silverstream needed to win all three games in the last round but could only win two, so Kapiti kept the trophy. Final score was 5-4.
This was the last game of the draw for Round 28. Kapiti will know the next challenger after draw for Round 29 is made.

Twenty-four teams took part in the Naenae Open Doubles. After four rounds random draw (timed games - 50 minutes) teams were split into pools of four to play semi-final and final.
The Platinum final featured same teams as last year, Myles Cowper/Michael Rocks against Dave Gwerder/Moises Burgos. Michael and Myles won again, this time 13-0.
The winners of the other pools were:
Gold Group: Adrienne Gwerder/Paul Bonsey (Upper Hutt)
Silver Group: Al Boaden/Terry Coleman (Naenae)
Bronze Group: Colin Gooch (Upper Hutt)/Judy Stewart (Naenae)
Tin Group: Sue Boaden/Lee Matthewman (Naenae)
Wood Group: Kathy Taylor/Alison Zuppicich (Upper Hutt)

Thirteen players took part in the Regional Pointing Competition held in conjunction with the Regional Singles. The top two qualifiers were Michael Rocks (41) and Rachel Clarke (34).
In the final held during the Sunday lunch break, Rachel was unable to go one better than her runner-up position last year. Michael won the final 38-12.

Forty-two players took part in the Regional Singles, held at the Horowhenua Pétanque club. This is the largest entry since forty-eight took part in 2007.
Two players were undefeated after the Saturday's 5 round Snake (random draw) games: Kevin McFadgen and Te Wai Haa Rangi Biddle-Amoroa. Eleven players had 4 wins, while three players snuck through with 3 wins and good points differential.
As is usually the case on Sunday, the undefeated players from Saturday lost their unbeaten status. While Kevin lost 2 of his 3 pool games, he still qualified second in the pool to make the Trophy knockout. Te Wai Haa Rangi also lost 2 pool games, but finished third in her pool to drop into the Plate.
In the morning pool round, Michael Rocks had breaten Kevin. However, in the Trophy final Kevin reversed the result winning 13-5 to claim his first Regional Singles title in his third final apperarance.
In the Plate final, Annick Le Guen beat Vaughan Husband. In the Bowl final, Steve Frampton beat Claire Bradburn. Christine Strichen beat Alan Frost to win the Cup final. In the last finishing game of the tournament, Jan Haumaha beat Graeme Morris 13-12 to win the Glass final. Kathy Gatford beat Janet Frost to win the Saucer final.

Thirty-one teams have entered the Regional Doubles Championship this weekend (30-31 October) at Horowhenua. An extra team to avoid a Bye would be appreciated.
