WPA Regional Singles Championship

Regional Singles participants

Forty-two players took part in the Regional Singles, held at the Horowhenua Pétanque club. This is the largest entry since forty-eight took part in 2007.

Two players were undefeated after the Saturday's 5 round Snake (random draw) games: Kevin McFadgen and Te Wai Haa Rangi Biddle-Amoroa. Eleven players had 4 wins, while three players snuck through with 3 wins and good points differential.

As is usually the case on Sunday, the undefeated players from Saturday lost their unbeaten status. While Kevin lost 2 of his 3 pool games, he still qualified second in the pool to make the Trophy knockout. Te Wai Haa Rangi also lost 2 pool games, but finished third in her pool to drop into the Plate.

In the morning pool round, Michael Rocks had breaten Kevin. However, in the Trophy final Kevin reversed the result winning 13-5 to claim his first Regional Singles title in his third final apperarance.

In the Plate final, Annick Le Guen beat Vaughan Husband. In the Bowl final, Steve Frampton beat Claire Bradburn. Christine Strichen beat Alan Frost to win the Cup final. In the last finishing game of the tournament, Jan Haumaha beat Graeme Morris 13-12 to win the Glass final. Kathy Gatford beat Janet Frost to win the Saucer final.
