The Jacques Cochonnet Trophy merry-go-round continues as Silverstream lost their first defence to Kapiti. This is Kapiti's first win of the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy in twelve matches.

Dirk Winnie will be running two Regional training days on Sunday 6 September and Saturday 17 October. The sessions will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. These sessions are open to all WPA Members. The cost is $5.00 per person per session. The venue will be advised later.

The 100th Jacques Cochonnet Trophy challenge saw Kapiti become the first team to successfully defend the Trophy at home in over a year when they defeated Manawatu by 7 games to 2.

Presentations were made to Club representatives at two sesions in Silverstream and Otaki over the weekend. Clubs will be asked to vote on the acceptenace of the Plan at the 24 September WPA Meeting.

The third annual Wellington-Auckland match will be played at the Park Avenue terrain on Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 August. The start time is 9:30 am both days.
On Saturday the format is 2 rounds of Singles and 3 rounds of Doubles. The format on Sunday is 4 rounds of Triples.
The overall series result is 1-1 with each region winning the home tie. Come along and support the Wellington region team.

At the end of the first day's play Auckland holds a narrow lead over Wellington (50 points to 40 points).

The Chanticleer Cup has been retained by Auckland. Going into the Triples rounds, Auckland needed to win eleven of the twenty-four games to retain the Cup while Wellington needed to win fourteen games to win the match.
After three rounds of play, both teams has won nine games which meant that Wellington had to win at least five of the last six games. Unfortunately, the weather which had been been slowly deteriorating, became truly awful with driving rain. The two Senior Triples were quickly shared 1-1, which left Auckland just one win away from victory. Wellington lost three of the remaining four games and the final game was abandoned at 9-9.

Michael Rocks will be running a new series of four coaching sessions on Wednesday evenings during October for intermediate level players who wish to improve their skills. The sessions are limited to 12 players. First preference will be given to those players who who have not attended previous sessions. If there is sufficient interest a follow-up series will be held in the New Year.
