WPA Senior Doubles Championship

Trophy winners Kathy & Tony Gatford with runners up Graeme Morris & Ann Hogg

Twenty four teams took part in the 2022 WPA Senior Doubles held at the Kapiti Pétanque club on Wednesday 23 November.

The format was four qualifying (randomly drawn) games after which teams were divided into sections of eight for the elimination stages in the trophy, plate and bowl.

The winners were :
Trophy:Tony and Kathy Gatford (Kapiti)
Plate:  Andy and Jane Gilbert (Wanganui East)
Bowl:  Brian and Claire Bradburn (Silverstream)

Jacques Cochonnet Trophy Challenge

2 December 2022

Manawatu challenged Silverstream for the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy on Saturday 26 November 2022 at Manawatu.

Silverstream won 5-4 overall. Their hero was Seyjay Harawira who won all three of his matches and was the difference between the two sides.

Silverstream's next defence is at home against Masterton.

WPA Open Triples

Trophy winners Moises Burgos, Te Wai Haa Rangi Biddle-Amoroa & Nico Tyne

Sixteen teams took part in the 2022 WPA Open Triples held at the Otaki Pétanque club on Saturday 10 December.

The promise of rain resulted in light drizzle with some sunshine. The finals finished in rain though.

After the random draw, teams were divided into two lots of eight for the quarter final, semi and final.

The winners were :
Trophy:Te Wai Haa Rangi Biddle-Amoroa, (Wanganui East) Moises Burgos (Upper Hutt) & Nico Tyne (Vikings)
Plate:  Andy Gilbert, Jane Gilbert & Bill Ray (Wanganui East)

Congratulations to Michael Rocks (Khandallah) who passed the National Umpire's exam and to Tony Simpson (Wanganui East) and Clive Williams (Naenae) who both passed their Regional Umpire's exam.
