Brian reported that we are headed for another deficit, but was not alarmed. Two things to be considered for presentation at the 2025 AGM are increasing subs to $5 and not presenting trophies or ribbons for 3rd= place in tournaments. Brian asked if we want a financial report each meeting, which he is happy to do. The committee agreed yes. Brian asked all Clubs owed money for hosting tournaments or training to email him with details. Treasurer’s report accepted, moved Kevin, seconded Claire B.
Claire wishes to review how long senior doubles games should last (see later). WPA are responsible for entry forms. Val requests that the forms include a contact person in the host Club, as she has been contacted about matters in which she has no involvement. Claire B, Graeme and Kevin, and anyone else who may be interested, will review all matters for the 2025/6 season.
Clive’s report was presented and discussed. Judith said Manawatu had two umpires, Trish Smart and Christine Daykin. Graeme said all tournaments should have an umpire. If Masterton Club does not enter the Interclub, he may be able to umpire the event but he would have to travel to the venue the night before, incurring accommodation and travel costs. Kevin said Clive was doing a great job.
No issues. All agreed the website was going well, with great service from Anne.
Twenty eight teams in November tournament, also 28 entries in Club singles next weekend. Christmas party in January
Piste dedicated to Don Thompson, an ailing life member. One new member
Hosting Interclub in January. Denise Bramwell thrilled to be awarded most improved player. Janet Hall retiring as WPA rep and from Horowhenua committee but will still be seen on the piste.
Three new club members. They are not too hard on the rules as they do not wish to discourage their members who are mainly social players.
Hosted 40 students from Paraparaumu College, and hope to gain new members. Upper Hutt defeated Kapiti for the JC. Committee decided to enforce rules on Club days. Michelle Maxwell runs coaching sessions on demand, gives members opportunity to learn rules.
New lady turned up. Have so many entrants to tournaments that there are few members playing on a day of a tournament. Looking forward to hosting women’s triples.
No change in membership. Club Christmas function tomorrow. Club singles on Saturday.
Progressing well. Got a good number of competitive players, looking at educating newer players.
Beat Upper Hutt in Boules to You trophy for first time in three years (trophy has been played for since 1995). More metal placed on pistes. Open Triples to be held in February, won’t compete with Wings over the Wairarapa for accommodation this time.
Incorporated Societies Act; Waiting on PNZ to finish their Constitution before proceeding any further, expecting this will be at least two months away, missing their Christmas target date.
Hataitai. We have received subs for five members and a membership list of seven players. Everyone agreed this was unsatisfactory. An email has been sent to them asking for subs for the remaining two members to be paid. If nothing happens by mid January President Kevin will follow up.
Submission by Bruce Stephenson. This was discussed but not supported. However, the submission will be discussed at the review of tournaments and a reply given to Bruce. To shorten the playing times would reduce the mana/prestige of the event, and members value the trophies they win. Graeme says he will take his trophies with him to the grave (if a coffin large enough for his collection can be found?).
Other. Graeme gave a rundown on the Tri-Star, and complimented Upper Hutt on a great job hosting the event.
Val reminded all of the New Year Melee at Otaki on January 4th.
Janet thanked everyone for their support and will see us all on the pistes.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, from the Committee.
