Ron Thompson

25 September 2024

Many pétanque players who have been involved in our game for a long time will have met and known Ron Thompson from Timaru.

Sadly Ron passed away on 7th September.

Ron and his wife Mavis have been instrumental in the development of the game, particularly in the South Island. They were involved in the formation of the Timaru Town and Country Pétanque Club in 1998 and Ron also worked with students from the local high school and was successful in getting many of them involved competitively.

Ron served on the Pétanque New Zealand Board as the Southern Representative for several years from 2006.

Ron will be greatly missed
