Upper Hutt's fourth defence was at home against Horowhenua on Saturday, 13th April 2024.

Despite Marie Jones from Horowhenua winning all three singles it wasn't enough.

Fortunately for Upper Hutt the doubles (Mary Khalil / Dave Gwerder) and triples (Moises Burgos / Brian Smith / Adrienne Gwerder) won all their games. This gave Upper Hutt an overall win of 6/3.

Gwen Hill

29 April 2024

It is with sadness that I advise Wellington Clubs that Gwen Hill has passed away.

Gwen was a life member of the Wellington Pétanque Association (WPA) receiving the honour in 2017. Gwen was the first Umpire Co-ordinator appointed by the WPA and was responsible for setting up an umpiring structure within the Wellington Region and co-ordinating all umpiring activities within the region. One of her many strengths was her excellent communication with fellow umpires in the region to ensure all regional tournaments had a qualified umpire presiding over them and that all umpires were up to date with the latest umpiring news.

Gwen joined the Kapiti Club in February 1998, although it has been some years since she played pétanque . Gwen was a stickler for ensuring all pétanque players played within the rules of the game, including Kapiti players at club days. Many players, including myself, have been on the receiving end of comments from Gwen about observing the rules of pétanque.

Our condolences go out to Gwen’s family, and we are thinking of them at this difficult time.
