Masterton Pétanque Club hosted the fourth annual Hospice Charity Pétanque Tournament on Saturday 4th February. This tournament was started in 2020 at the Kapiti Club and is moved around a different club each year within the Wellington Petanque Association region.
After Kapiti, Horowhenua and Whanganui East Pétanque Clubs have been hosts. The tournament has become very popular and a maximum field of 48 players took part this year in Masterton.
Participants came from as far away as Tauranga, Whanganui, Palmerston North, Otaki, Levin, Kapiti and the Hutt Valley.
All proceeds from the tournament go to the local hospice and this year $2000.00 was raised for Hospice Wairarapa. Money was raised from entry fees, raffle sales, auctions, a sales table and some generous donations. Sponsorship was also provided by Masterton Mitre10 Mega, Masterweave Wairarapa and Masterton New World Supermarket.
