Treasurer’s Report

Michael spoke to the report. He apologised for it being a little late, because of delays in sorting out details from March. Income in this period is from a small number of tournaments held. A term deposit has rolled over, with the interest rate increasing from 1+% to 2+% and looks likely to increase. Michael asked that all outstanding invoices and expenses etc be presented before the AGM.

Moved Michael Rocks- Seconded Janet Hall

Tournament Sub-Committee Report

All events have been completed for the season. WPA tournaments have generally been lucky with Covid. There have been some withdrawals because of contacts with Covid carriers but not many.

Michael apologised for the deliveries of the new trophies to the doubles and triples Women’s tournaments. Cooks Trophies could not obtain the parts for one of the trophies and it couldn’t be presented at the event.

Michael hoped to get feedback on the tournaments.

Clubs Update

Kapiti

Have this season won the WPA Champion of Champions single, doubles and triples. Following an article in their local paper and a touch rugby tournament they have attracted several new members.

Wanganui East

Main news, Athena has passed away. Other news, they have recently successfully held the WPA Womens Doubles and Triples Tournaments.

Masterton

Graeme advertised their open mêlée for 19 May, entries close 16 May. They recently hosted a group of 10 from a local friendship group, from which they may recruit a member or 2 .

Otaki

Held a very successful Murrayfield Triples. Beat Upper Hutt for Jacques Cochonnet Trophy but lost it to Horowhenua.

Upper Hutt

Congratulations to Otaki in beating them for the Jacques Cochonnet against them. Paul will arrange delivery of the Trophy to them. Membership is steady.

NaeNae

Main news is Enoka and Monica are departing for Tauranga. Claire enquired could friends attend a farewell function.

Manawatu

There was a good favourable article in their local free paper. Hopefully they will get some new members as a result.

Horowhenua

Have recently successfully held the Champion of Champion Triples . Have attracted 3 new members. Won Jaques Cochonnet Trophy from Otaki.

Khandallah

Daylight saving has finished and they play some twilight games at Waitangi Park. Locals sometimes show an interest.

Hataitai

Myles is the only competitive member. They will soon have to make a decision on the Club’s viability. Recently a group of about 10 sports people showed up and 2 enquired about joining, but Myles had to disillusion them. Claire pointed out Hataitai is not far from the Hutt Valley. Simon said Naenae already has members from Lyall Bay, Mt Victoria and Waikanae .

Silverstream

Have had no new members for 3 weeks, which is a relief. There are 11 new members to consider for player of the year and plenty of keen competitive players playing in tournaments. .

General Business

Claire moved the Committee approves her purchase of 2 cups at $40 each for presentation at the Women’s Doubles and Triples Tournaments, in place of the $7 cups last presented. Michael said in the past the Singles Tournament had been considered a Championship, but not the Doubles or Triples. Claire will present a paper to the AGM proposing that the Women’s Doubles and Triples become Championships.

Graeme seconded, carried with 2 dissenting votes

Clive Williams’s proposals re a tournament for novices be accepted in principle. Moved Graeme, seconded Lynne, carried with 2 dissenting votes

Claire said there was one member from Silverstream that was keen to be involved in the running of the tournament. Michael said that the WPA Tournament Sub-Committee would consider the matter and deliver a response by the AGM.

Claire will not be standing for WPA President at the upcoming AGM.

Michael stated that there will be an email forthcoming about appointments to the PNZ executive at their AGM. In particular, Michael will be the new President. Claire suggested Michael delegate some of his duties. Michael agreed, said he was looking into it.

Next meeting AGM Saturday 18th June at Horowhenua starting at 10.00am.

Meeting closed at 8:25pm
