Thirty players took part in the WPA Regional Singles at Kapiti on Saturday and Sunday 28-29 October 2023.
Three players were undefeated after Saturday's five round random draw games: Kevin McFadgen, Marie Jones and Michael Rocks. Four players had four wins, while six players had three wins.
On Sunday the undefeated players from Saturday lost their unbeaten status. Kevin and Michael lost one of their three pool games, both finished second in their pool and qualified to make the Trophy knockout.
Marie Jones also lost one pool game, finished third in her pool to drop into the Plate.
Winners were: Trophy - Steve Frampton. Runner up Michael Rocks. Plate - Michelle Maxwell. Runner up Graeme Jackson. Bowl - Barry Cross. Runner up Rachel Clarke.
Bowl Consolation - Claire Bradburn. Runner up John Galbraith.
Forty four players participated in this first event sponsored by Summerset Boulcott Retirement Village on Saturday 11 November 2023.
After the seeding rounds, only one team had four wins – Upper Hutt’s Colin Gooch and Mary Khalil. The second team was Silverstream’s Theresa and Seymour Harawira who had one draw during the early rounds.
A thrilling finish ensued – the Harawira’s, determined and calm under pressure, pulled off a 10/8 win to take the top spot.
Twenty teams took part in the 2023 WPA Senior Doubles at the Manawatu Pétanque club on Wednesday 15 November.
The format was four qualifying (randomly drawn) games followed by elimination stages in the trophy, plate and bowl.
The winners were : Trophy Ann Hogg ( Horowhenua) and Graeme Morris (Masterton) Plate Michael Rocks (Naenae) and Debby Butler (Kapiti) Bowl Carleen Fitzgerald (Horowhenua) and Lynley Wistrand (Otaki)
