Masterton Petanque Club held their annual Bastille Day Mêlée on July 14th.
Twenty eight entries were received. Ten from the Masterton Club and the remaining 18 entries
from Silverstream, Manawatu, Naenae, Horowhenua and one from Christchurch.
Many Masterton club members find playing all day in a tournament very
taxing. So, the Masterton club allows two players to team up together and play turn-about.
This way all members have an opportunity to be involved. They also encourage
visitors to take up this option when entering their open mêlée tournaments. The only proviso
is that any prize won by a combined entry has to be shared.
Players played five games timed to 50 minutes plus one end. Entrants were encouraged to dress up appropriately for the occasion.
Prizes were awarded to the top five places and also to the highest placed visiting player who was not in the top five. A prize was also given for the best dressed in the Bastille Day theme.
